How do i become vendor?
- Fill out our current vendor application and return it with the $75 application fee to the market manager at 319 Main Street, Smithfield, VA 23430
- The application and fee can be either mailed or delivered to the above address
- The market manager will review your application and will let you know the status of your application as soon as possible.
- If accepted into the market; you will have to have a current Town of Smithfield Business license.
- you do not have to have a business license if you are a farm
- Once all of the paperwork is squared away, you will be put on the schedule for the market!
What paperwork is required to particiapte?
You need the following if you are a Food Vendor:

- Certified Food Handlers Managers Certification
- Temporary Food Establishment Application
- Any other documents that are needed from the Virginia Department of Health. Visit Temporary Food Establishments - Environmental Health (virginia.gov) for more information.
You need the following if you are a Baker:
- Permit Application for a home Food Processing Operation
- OR
- Permit Application for a commercial Kitchen Food Processing Operation

Are there any fees?
- Yes! The market is a self-supporting entity that relies on the fees collected from the vendors as well as support from sponsors.
- There is a $75 application fee (if not accepted into the market, the fee is refunded)
- When participating in the market, we collect 5% or $15, whichever is greater, of your total gross sales for the day.
are there restrooms at the market?
We don't have restrooms on site, but there are public restrooms next to the Smithfield Ice Cream Parlor.
Are dogs allowed?
We are pet friendly, but we do have a few rules regarding our furry friends.
- Please keep your animals on a leash at ALL TIMES. There are no exceptions for trainers.
- bring only a healthy dog.
- Please make sure your dog is up to date on shots before bringing them out in public.
- Please clean up after your pet. There is a pet waste station available.
- Ask before you pet a stranger's dog and before your dog can interact with another dog.
- Try not to allow your dog to jump up on people; even if your dog is friendly, it’s not polite behavior or may hurt someone on accident.
- Please do not bring your dog to go into vendors tents unless given permission by the vendor.
- Please keep in mind your dog's health as the summer heat begins to kick in.
Is food available?
We have hot food vendors that come every weekend! We also have a small picnic area where you can enjoy your food and listen to our live music!
When and where is the market?
Our market is every Saturday from 9am - 12:30pm in the parking lot of Bank of Southside VA. We operate April through October with holiday markets in November and December. We do not have a market when there is a street closure event in Downtown Smithfield.
Does the market still go on in the rain?
We will operate in a light rain, but we will certainly cancel the market if there is thunder, lightning, or extreme wind. Extreme wind and tents just don't mix well! You can check our Facebook page for any updates regarding cancellations.
Do you allow bicycles, scooters, etc?
We would prefer you walk your bicycle, scooter, or skateboards throughout the market due to the safety hazards they may cause our customers.
Where is the best place to park?
There are numerous free parking spaces along Main Street.
- The parking lot behind the Taste of Smithfield
- There is free parking along Main and Cedar Street.
- There is additional parking at the Smithfield Center and Smithfield Little Theatre parking lots.
I see on your calendar specialty markets, are those different than a regualr farmers market?
Throughout the year we have several specialty themed markets that provides the community with some extra fun!

Is this a drive through market?
During the peak of the COVID pandemic, we did have a makeshift drive-through market, but we are no longer operating at the capacity. All of our markets are made for visitors to walk around the market. No cars are allowed to enter the market parking lot once the market has started.
Is there an atm?
Yes! Conveniently, there is an ATM available at the front of the market in between the musician and the Hospitality Tent. But unfortunately, sometimes it does run out of money.
Do you allow smoking/vaping?
Smoking, vaping, alcohol, firearms and foul language are prohibited in the market parameters
Do vendors accept credit cards?
Majority of our vendors do accept credit cards, there are other methods of payment accepted at the market including Venmo, Cash App, and cash.
is the produce and other goods local?
We want to make sure that our customers have availability to the freshest, most local goods. In order to have variety in products that can't be found locally in Virginia, we allow our farmers to partner with other farmers from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia (The farmers are required to display where the produce is coming from).
